Weingut Matthias Nittnaus

One of the traditional wineries of the region

How it all started

For more than five generations family, Nittnaus engages in agriculture. The company exists since 1700 – Georg Nittnaus laid the cornerstone for the family business.

The passion for wine grew over time and so the family put their focus on wine production during the 80ies. Today, Matthias Nittnaus leads the winery and when Klaus Nittnaus stepped in in April 2008, the young generation started to add their touch.

Klaus Nittnaus made his first wine in 2003 already. It’s called NIK, which stands for NIttnaus Klaus. After some practical periods in Austria and abroad, he finally took over the responsibility for the cellar of the family winery. Klaus also represents the winery at fairs and events.

This is what the winery stands for today

Matthias and Klaus Nittnaus’ winery is a traditional company where great importance is attached to manual work. Even though technology is great nowadays, certain steps that require care and quality cannot be done by machines.

In the vineyards, family Nittnaus tries to get mineral nutrients into the soil in a natural way by growing a so called green cover. Certain deep rooting plants, like canola, loosen the earth even without using machines.

Also in pest control, winery Nittnaus calls on natural methods. Already before the growth of the vines is affected, pheromone traps, for example, make sure that there isn’t a pest infestation to begin with.
