Weingut Gsellmann am Goldberg

Natural white wines in the limelight

How it all started

Family Gsellmann grows wine for four generations already. Due to the consolidation of the maternal company and the continuous acquisition of vineyards – especially at the well-known sites like Salzberg and Ungerberg – the winery grew steadily.

Winery Gsellmann has put its focus on white wines from the beginning. Even when many other wineries switched to red wine, the family stayed strong.

Ten years ago, Norbert Gsellmann took over the business. His philosophy is to maintain the traditional way of maturing and to modernise in a very targeted manner.

This is what the winery stands for today
Family Gsellmann focuses on the work in the vineyards and the production of high-quality and healthy grapes. Since good grape material ripens already outside, the processing in the cellar is much easier and a gentle and natural fermentation is possible.
Methods to increase quality in the vineyards are for example the selective removal of leaves and side shoots as well as the careful manual thinning out. But quantity reduction also happens naturally at Weingut Gsellmann: Some of their vines are up to 45 years old and carry fewer grapes due to their age. But those few grapes are of great quality indeed!
Weingut Gsellmann vinifies their wines in a traditional way. This means, their white wines have only short or no maceration, the must gets constantly racked. Spontanuous fermentation and maturing happen in big, 40 years old wooden barrels. There’s no temperature control. For both white and red wines, the family abstains consciously from blending, maturation in barrique barrels resp. maturation in stainless steel tanks.

All Gsellmann wines are harvested sorted and present themselves with a typical nose, palate and after taste. Winery Gsellmann am Goldberg are one of the few that still cultivate the rare grape varieties Neuburger and Rivaner.
  • White wines: Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Rivaner Royal
  • Red wine: Zweigelt
